Goals and such

I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to see Honey as much as I have in the past week. And thanks to an awesome friend -who is also a fellow boarder- Honey has made so much improvement. I am not exempt from this, either. It has definitely shown me that I have a lot to work on within myself in order to get to where I want to be as a horse owner. I want to focus on our homework and goals, short-term and long-term.

Homework:
  1. Staying in "park"-
This is the one that sticks out to me the most. I want to get to the point where she isn't shifting around or backing up. I want her to stand well for the farrier, next to the mounting block, and anytime I ask her to just stand GD stand there.
  2. Shoulder awareness- helping her learn to move the different parts of her body.
  3. Hip awareness- see shoulder.
  4. Dropping her head on her own volition-stress release.
  5. Lounging- voice commands.
  6. Learn to be the boss mare- this one is for me. I want to be fair, firm, consistent, and provide guidance.

Short-term goals:
  1. Have Honey Dew be 100% pleasurable to be around; including fellow boarders, friends, strangers.
Long-term goals:
  1. My number one dream with Honey is to ride like Ehcapa does it. I want a harmonious relationship minus the bridle and saddle. I want to do everything through body language.
I am excited to put these goals in writing because I will be accountable for what I want now. It's up to me to build the foundation and go step-by-step on this wonderful journey with a mare that I am smitten over.
